Pioneered by Chicago-based streetwear designer Ellen Ma, Hip Hop Happy is a modern twist on the Plushy, and an aesthetic tribute to hip-hop's greatest icons.
History
I idolized the Chicago art and streetwear scene growing up. Working in it has allowed allowed me to see people rise to prominence. Now it’s my turn, but I want to put my own mark on my work because there’s a certain playfulness in urban culture that I want to provide. This line draws inspiration from my Asian upbringing, and the urban culture of the city that raised me, Chicago. The First Release celebrates seminal icons from hip hop’s history: The Musician, The Artist, and The OG are all meant to invoke a slice of the aesthetic of these movers and shakers. I want to bring these cultures together and make them accessible to everyone.
